This piece was the first we collected, it is the piece that inspired the whole Smorgasbord, Sweden is in the heart project.
In its own simplicity it say a lot of what Swedish country style is about: simplicity, almost frugality, love for small things and little details, appreciation of light reproduced with the colour white and encouraged through the fibres by a very loose two-shafts weaving, nordic blue colour reminding of water and clear sky, human (see the humanised birds holding flowers), a hint of elegant french style - strong influence in the Swedish style - through the symmetry and the central regal vase.
It is made of cotton, hand-woven with two-shafts technique. Hand-embroidered with cross-stitch technique and blanket-stitching technique at the borders ("langett").
This used to be a breakfast tray cloth and it is estimated to be from the last part of the 1800 century.
